George Nikitiades was born in New York in 1953. He comes from Nisiros an island of the Dodekanese complex and spent his early years in Kos where he attended school. After graduating he entered and completed his studies in Kapodistrian Law School of Athens.
During the era of dictatorship he was an active member of resistance. In 1976 he went to the U.S. for graduate studies. At the same time he worked at the Greek daily democratic newspaper "PROINI" of New York.
Back to Greece in 1981 he started practicing law and established one of the most distinguished law offices in Athens and he is an attorney in the Supreme Court of Athens.
George Nikitiades is one of the founding members of the Pan-Hellenic Socialist Movement of Greece PASOK. From 1985 to 2000 he was a Member of the International Relations Committee of PASOK and a Member of the Immigration Committee.
He served for two years (2000-2001) as a Secretary General of Public Administration at the Ministry of Interior. During his service he contributed in the prevalence of the Citizen Service Centers (KEP). He resigned from his post to run for the office of MP for the Dodekanese complex.
He was elected as a Member of the Parliament in 2007, taking the first place among the elected MP's of the district, while George Papandreou appointed him as a Secretary of the tourism sector of PASOK.
He was re elected in 2009 and after the proposal of the Prime Minister George Papandreou he was elected President of Standing Committee on Education Affairs, Member of the Sub-Committee of Sports, Member of the Sub-Committee of Defense and Foreign Affairs and Vice President of the "Siemens Case" Committee.
He was also a member of Standing Committee of Defense and Foreign Affairs and the Parliamentary Sectors of Labor, Culture, Education, Tourism, Defense and Foreign Affairs of PASOK.
He speaks Greek and English.
From May 2010 George Nikitiades serves as a Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism.
He is married to Georgia Iatrou – Nikitiadi and they have a daughter. He is also the writer of the widely read book "Tourism: 12 Points, Dodekanese: 12 dreams" published by Livanis Books Ltd.
